The Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy

Posted on: May 14th, 2017

After our massage therapy program, students will be well versed in the energies of the Eastern approach and techniques of the West. We do not just teach how to address the body but incorporate the mind and spirit as well. What does the mind and spirit include exactly? In this article, we want to go into more detail about craniosacral therapy specifically (without giving away the goods) and the benefits.

Definition of Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a holistic healing practice that uses very light touching to balance the craniosacral system in the body, which includes the bones, nerves, fluids, and connective tissues of the cranium and spinal area. The term craniosacral or cranial-sacral are based on the terms cranium and sacrum, a bone of the pelvis which connects the lowest lumbar vertebra to the two hip bones and the tailbone. The goal of this type of therapy is to release compression in those areas which will help alleviate stress and pain. As a light, hands-on approach, craniosacral therapy harmonizes with the body’s natural hydraulic forces and movements. This encourages and enhances the body’s natural healing abilities. This gentle releasing of chronic tensions within the body can effect major changes in both physical and emotional well-being.
